NHS Yorkshire and the Humber

The key principles of education commissioning are as follows:

  • commissioning to support the whole workforce
  • commissioning across the whole of the region
     

The responsibilities of the education commissioning team include:

  • production of an education commissioning strategy
  • managing contracts with education providers (including performance management)
  • quality assurance 
  • practice learning
  • life long learning

In September 2011 the SHA published its overall strategic intentions and assumptions for funding allocations of the multiprofessional education and training budget. The document is available to download.

This document examines the changing context for workforce planning and education commissioning within the NHS and aims to:

  • identify the workforce and education requirements to deliver each of the clinical pathways in Healthy Ambitions
  • improve workforce planning throughout the region by engaging health communities in a dialogue about the future shape and education needs of the healthcare workforce
  • describe the SHA's approach to a range of underpinning themes such as investment and leadership.
