NHS Yorkshire and the Humber

NHS Yorkshire and the Humber has appointed an Executive committee to support Clinical Skills initiatives within the region.  The Yorkshire and the Humber Clinical Skills Network was reformed in 2008, a new Chair and Steering Group were appointed in 2009. 

A report was commissioned by NHS Yorkshire and the Humber to outline the provision of Clinical Skills and Simulation across the Region.  The report, published in 2009, informs regional investment needs, areas of best practice, current developments and future innovations:

Clinical skills has been defined for this region as any action performed by staff involved in direct care of patients which impacts on clinical outcomes in a measurable way and includes:

  • Cognitive or 'thinking' skills such as clinical reasoning and decision making
  • Non technical skills such as team working and communication
  • Technical skills such as clinical examination and invasive procedures
