It is a requirement of the NMC (2012) Midwives rules and standards that the Local Supervising Authority (LSA) will enable the Local Supervising Authority Midwifery Officer (LSAMO) to :
2.1 Using an appropriate framework, complete an annual audit of the supervision of midwives within its area
2.2 Monitor the practice supervisors of midwives as part of maintaining and improving the quality of the provision of statutory supervision of midwives
2.3 Involve women who use the services of midwives in assuring the effectiveness of the supervision of midwives
Lay reviewers, users of maternity services and user organisations will be involved in the audits undertaken by a local supervising authority.
The Yorkshire and Humber LSA Supervisors of Midwives Audit Group has produced a new audit tool and process for the 2012/13 audit cycle with the support and advice of supervisors of midwives, midwifery educationalists, heads of midwifery services, maternity service liaison committees and service user representatives. All the necessary information and audit tools are accessible via this page.
If you would like more information about the LSA audit process, or if you have used maternity services recently and are interested in being involved in the LSA audits, please read the LSA service user auditor guide below:
