The SHA holds statutory responsibility for the supervision of midwives and midwifery practice in Yorkshire and the Humber through the Local Supervising Authority (LSA).
The LSA ensures that supervision of midwives across the region is of a satisfactory standard, and safe and secure midwifery care is carried out within its boundaries. This covers all midwives in the region, irrespective of their employer.

The LSAMO is professionaly accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
