NHS Yorkshire and the Humber

John White is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine in York where he has worked for 15 years. He is co-clinical lead for the Yorkshire and the Humber SHA for the national strategy. He has been on the York and North Yorkshire Respiratory Steering Group since its inception working to standardise care for this local respiratory community. He is Chairman of the British Thoracic Society Standards of Care Committee which is responsible for producing national guidelines in respiratory medicine.


Maria Read

Maria has been a GP in Sheffield since 1981, and has worked for 25 years in a challenging inner city Practice. She has a special interest in the delivery of Respiratory Care, and has Chaired the Sheffield COPD Interest Group for the past 15 years. She is Clinical Lead for Central Sheffield PBC Consortium, and Citywide Lead for COPD. She joined as a regional  clinical Lead last summer. Her main interest is in raising standards of holistic, patient centred, cost-effective care, and integration of services.

Catherine is a National Improvement Lead with NHS Improvement. She works in the Lung Improvement Programme and leads on the Transforming Acute Care work stream. She has a regional lead role for NHS Yorkshire and the Humber and NHS North East. Prior to this role Catherine worked as a physiotherapist in respiratory care in York and also in an academic role teaching physiotherapy at York St John University.

 


Sue Thackray

Sue is a Registered General Nurse who has a grounded career in cardiac and respiratory Care. Sue developed a strong interest in health care delivery and innovation and change, obtaining a postgraduate Professional Diploma in Health Care Management in 2004. She then specialised in strategy, innovation and change management, gaining a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2006. Sue moved to NHS Sheffield in 2005, with a specific remit for Long term Conditions and in particular COPD.  Sues role includes, Health Needs Assessment, strategic market analysis and geo-demographics segmentation; developing clinically led service redesign. Her team provides Public Health support to GP practices to reduce variation in practice and service redesign through commissioning explicit levels of care and optimising current capacity and enhancing value for money

Lisa Chandler

Lisa has had a varied Nursing career as a Practice Nurse, Secondary care respiratory nurse specialist and community respiratory nurse specialist, obtaining a post graduate certificate in Respiratory Medicine in 2008. Lisa has managed the Respiratory Programme in NHS Wakefield since 2006 as part of the Public Health Long Term Conditions Team. Her role includes health needs assessment, commissioning services, education and pathway development. Until taking up the post of Programme Manager for NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, Lisa was also a lecturer on a variety of respiratory courses with a local training provider. She is a member of the Yorkshire and Humber Improvement Partnership Childhood Asthma Group.

Bev Wears

Bev has worked for the BLF since 1996. She manages the North Region (North East and Yorkshire & The Humber) and her work involves raising awareness of lung disease, good lung health and the British Lung Foundation to a wide audience; working with local and regional NHS and associated organisations to improve respiratory services for their patients and overseeing the support offered to people living with lung disease in the region through regional Breathe Easy self-help groups.

Nigel has worked in the NHS since initially qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in1985.  He has worked as both a professional manager and leader in both a provider and commissioner organisation predominately across Yorkshire and Humber during his NHS career.  He enjoys working in a complex health and social care environment and enjoys delivering change through others. 

His current role is within Leeds, a complex and diverse city with a population of 760,000, where he is Deputy Director of Commissioning and Nursing.
